Leather Care Guide

Natural leather needs gentle care. Grain, wrinkles and changes in color are part of the hide. A patina develops with use, but the amount of change depends on the leather and finish.

Clean gently

Wipe dust away with a soft dry cloth. For a small mark, use a slightly damp cloth, then let the leather dry at room temperature. Keep it away from radiators, hair dryers and direct heat.

Keep water and harsh cleaners away

Do not soak leather or put it in a washer or dishwasher. Wipe spills and condensation off coasters and desk goods promptly. Avoid bleach, alcohol, strong soaps and household surface cleaners.

Condition only when needed

Check the care product’s label for your leather type. Test a small hidden area first: oils and conditioners can darken leather or change its feel. Use a small amount and follow the maker’s directions.

Belts and collars

Check buckles, screws, stitching and rings often. Stop using an item if the leather or hardware is worn or damaged. A collar’s leash ring is not a breakaway or anti-choking feature. Remove a collar before swimming and let it dry fully before use.

Store with room to breathe

Keep leather in a cool, dry place. Store a belt flat or loosely rolled. Do not trap damp leather in a sealed bag.
