Dog Collar Sizing Guide

A good collar fit starts with your dog’s neck, not their weight or breed.
Measure with two fingers of room
- Wrap a soft tape around the neck where the collar will sit.
- Keep it level and allow two fingers under the tape. It should feel snug without pressing into the neck.
- Use that reading with the chart below. Do not add another 2 inches.
No soft tape? Use a non-stretch string, then measure the string with a ruler.
Current sizes and widths
| Size | Neck range | Width |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 8–12 inches | 5/8 inch |
| Small | 11–15 inches | 5/8 inch |
| Medium | 12–20 inches | 3/4 inch |
| Large | 15–24 inches | 1 inch |
| XL | 17–26 inches | 1 inch |
Check the size choices on the collar you plan to buy. If ranges overlap, consider both the neck fit and the collar width. Recheck the fit as your dog grows or changes weight.
Need a custom neck range or XXL with a 1.25-inch width? Ask our workshop about a custom collar before ordering. These are custom requests, not a standard size choice on every listing.
