Size guide
- Wrap a soft measuring tape around your dog’s neck where the collar will sit.
- Leave enough room to slide two fingers between the tape and your dog’s neck.
- Compare that measurement with the available size ranges. Choose a size with room to make the collar tighter or looser.
- If you do not have a soft tape, use string. Mark the length, then measure it against a ruler.
- You can also measure a buckle collar that fits well. Lay it flat and measure from the buckle’s metal pin to the hole your dog uses. Do not measure the full length.
- Check the fit when the collar is on. Two fingers should fit comfortably underneath, but the collar should not slip over your dog’s head.
The leather
- We use American bison leather with deep grain and a rich, natural texture.
- Scars, wrinkles, and small marks carry traces of the animal’s life. We value these details because they give each piece its own story.
- Some collars have deeper grain or more visible marks than others. Your collar may look different from the photos.
- The beauty of this leather is best appreciated in person, where you can see its details and feel its texture.
- Over time, the leather gains a patina—a natural change in its color and surface.
How it is made
- Each collar is handmade by KowaLeather in our New Jersey studio.
- We cut two layers of American bison leather and glue them together.
- We stitch along the edges to hold the layers together and create a clean finish.
- Both layers together measure about 4.4 mm thick.
- We add adjustment holes, a buckle, and a D-ring to complete the collar.
